THE Magpies not only failed to lay their Belper bogey -they are without a win over the Derbyshire side in 12 UniBond First Division meetings - but heaped further pressure on beleaguered boss John Hughes after another disappointing away day.
After a bright start by Chorley, in which Jamie Vermiglio was unlucky to see a fine effort come back off the crossbar, Belper's sharpshooters took over and they were three up just after the hour-mark.
Michael Lyons gave them the lead on 37 minutes from Ben Walker's clever run and pull-back but Daniel Douglas-Pringle missed a great chance to equalise early in the second half, firing wide after bursting clean through from halfway.
Two strikes in two minutes by Walker effectively sealed Chorley's fate, his first a brilliant turn and shot into the top corner, his second the result of a terrible miscue by defender Ian Callaghan.
David Eatock drove home a free-kick on 66 minutes to reduce the arrears but 12 minutes later Sean Murray capped a flowing Belper move with another emphatic finish into the top corner.
With five minutes to go, Chorley gave the scoreline more respectability when Vermiglio's header was cleared off the line and Douglas-Pringle fired in the rebound.
New signing Jamie Squires was unable to make his debut in the centre of defence owing to emergency work commitments, but it was the Magpies' lightweight midfield which was the weakness against a team very quick on the break.
This latest setback leaves Chorley in a deepening crisis with no sign of an end to a lengthy winless sequence which is putting their UniBond status at serious risk.
