I AM conducting research into a group of WW2 Prisoners of War Camps which were built near the perimeter of two synthetic oil plants at Heydebrek and Blechhammer, Poland.
In 1944, USAAF Forces were able to reach the area and for six months it became a primary Allied target. I am compiling a Roll of Honour to commemorate the men who died there, whilst in captivity, and on the later "Death March" of 1945.
Among their number was Blackburn man Joe Gribben, who served with Princess Louise's Middlesex Regiment and who died in March 1942 aged 21. I would like to hear from anyone who knew Joe or can help with information about these camps: BAB20, BAB21, E3, E711, E711A, E629 and E714.
