FIRE swept through a Bury Market outdoor stall after flammable liquid was poured underneath a shutter.
The arson attack in the market's Georgiana block destroyed a quantity of CDs and videos.
However, two fire crews who tackled the blaze prevented the flames from spreading to neighbouring stalls.
They fought the fire for 40 minutes after being called to the market at 10pm on Saturday.
Station Officer Alan Topping, of Bury fire station, said: "This was a shuttered stall. Someone had poured in flammable liquid before setting fire to it. It took us a few minutes to break our way in as the liquid had gone under the shutter."
He added: "Another few minutes and it would have been totally gutted.
"We stopped the fire from spreading to other stallholders."
Investigations into the arson attack are continuing.
