THERE was so much kicking in the back of a police van on its way to Bury Police Station that the officers had to stop the vehicle to restrain and handcuff the occupants, a court heard.
One of the arrested men was Ryan Ross Bennett (22), of Newbold Street, Rochdale, who appeared before Bury magistrates where he admitted a charge of public disorder, and also breach of a conditional discharge.
The court was told a police patrol on duty in The Rock, Bury, was called to a disturbance involving a group of young men at the junction with Union Street.
Bennett was one of the disorderly group and kept falling to the floor.
He was eventually placed in the police van with others, but on the way to Bury Police Station the vehicle was being kicked so hard it had to be stopped and those inside, including Bennett, were handcuffed.
Bennett told the magistrates: "I haven't anything really to say because I was too drunk."
The bench ordered pre-sentence reports on Bennett, who was granted bail and ordered to return to the court for sentencing on December 22.
