IN response to your Mr Shuiab Khan's column in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph (November 19). It was an interesting article all about Christmas, his reminiscences of Christmas past and the pros and cons of Christmas future.

Then at the end of his article he throws in a remark about the Christmas Spirit shown in Clitheroe by most of the townsfolk but not by the councillors on Ribble Valley Council's policy and finance committee, referring to their decision to reject for the fifth time in six years the Muslim plans for a mosque in Clitheroe and compares the Tory councillors to the BNP "the only difference being their hair cuts."

What gives Mr Khan the right to say that their elected representatives of the majority of the people of Clitheroe are the same as the 20 or so BNP supporters that were gathered outside the Town Hall?

This council meeting was carried out in a democratic manner the way most decisions are made in this country.

It wasn't just the Muslim plans for a mosque that were rejected, there were other plans for various businesses that were also rejected but we don't hear the people who submitted their plans complaining or saying the decision was a travesty of justice.

In this country the majority of people accept rules, laws and decisions made by elected bodies, but my observations over the years have noticed a large percentage of Muslim leaders in this country can't take no for an answer.
