DENNIS Wise put on a brave face after Robbie Blake's sent Millwall spinning to their first defeat in five league games.

The Lions' player-manager, who missed the Turf Moor clash with a gashed leg, watched in frustration from the sidelines as several late chances denied his side a deserved point.

Wise said: "I dread to think how many shots we had on their goal. They've had one and that's a penalty that's won them the game.

"That can be football and it's obviously very disappointing because we really should have got something out of the game.

"Jo Tessem had a wonderful opportunity and you expect him to score from there and Doug (Livermore) then stuck the post late on.

"Darren Ward's header was another and we had so many opportunities in that second half.

"We threw the kitchen sink at Burnley and I'm so disappointed because we came here feeling confident, looking forward to the game and expecting to get something out of it."

On the controversial penalty, awarded for Mark Phillips' hand ball, Wise added: "It might or might not have been.

"It's one of those where the referee could give it either way, but unfortunately he seemed to give a lot of things to Burnley all afternoon.

"When it was a little push he would give them a free kick and when there was any little push on us, play on. You have to just put up with that."
