A CAR owner slammed the boot door shut on a would-be car thief after he found the teenager climbing into his motor.

The man arrived at his house on Fairfield Road, Heysham, at 5.30pm on Sunday after taking his dog for a walk when he found the thief clambering into the car.

He slammed the boot shut and called the police - but the thief managed to escape through a side door.

The would-be thief is described as around about 17, of medium build with short-cropped dark hair and around five feet, six inches tall wearing dark tracksuit bottoms, a white baseball cap and a grey hooded top.
