POLICE and health and safety officers have launched an investigation following the death of a bricklayer at a school near Preston.
Anthony Isherwood, 58, of Heron's Way, Blackpool, died after steel panels fell on him during building work at Hutton Grammar School, Liverpool Road, on Monday.
Mr Isherwood was working for Blackpool-based building contractor, R P Tyson Ltd, to convert the school's gym, at the time of the accident at about 2pm.
It is believed he was standing under a partially built mezzanine floor when it was hit by a forklift truck, dropping a number of steel panels on top of him, and killing him at the scene.
The school's headteacher, Tom Bennett, said no children witnessed the accident.
An inquest into Mr Isherwood's death is expected to be opened at Preston Coroner's Court this week.
