SQUIRES faced Power Station for the fourth time this season in the Sam Price Memorial Trophy - and what a thriller it turned out to be.

The Lancaster side opened up a 3-0 before half time lead thanks to Lee Fox (two) and Dez Martinez. But any thoughts that the game was over proved premature as Power Station hit back through David Makin and Paul Malcolm and were pressing for an equaliser.

However, Fox completed his hat-trick in stoppage time to ensure progress.

Storey's played their best football of the season against form team Ingleton as they booked a second round tie against Cartmel with a 5-0 win.

Player-manager Tony Hoyle scored twice with other goals coming from Chris Park, Andy Sanderson and Nick Pinnington.

There was a major shock in the Premier Division as leaders Kirkby Lonsdale lost and CCM Dynamos were held to a draw.

Kirkby Lonsdale were well beaten by lowly Caton United, Jon Longhorn, Steve Oliver and Darren Green earning Caton their 3-0 win.

That defeat should have given CCM the perfect chance to narrow the gap at the top - but they were held to a 1-1 draw by Westgate Wanderers.

Robert Brockbank gave Wanderers the lead before Stuart Thwaite levelled late on.

Marsh United moved into third place as they hammered Arnside 8-0. Jimmy Love plundered a hat trick, Lee Sparks bagged a brace as did Louis Hunt. Dave Shorrocks was the other man on target.

Cartmel rode their luck to beat Slyne with Hest 2-1. Slyne had 80 per cent of the play - but were made to pay for two mistakes as John Lord with a penalty and Joel Drinkall put Cartmel in the lead and Tony Morgan's goal was little more than a consolation for Slyne.

Division One leaders Torris-holme maintained their six-point advantage as goals from Dave Horay (two), Craig Holme, Dean Knight and Paul Boyle put them well in control against Ingleton Reserves, striker Dave Shaw scoring both consolations.

Highgrove returned to action after a two-week lay off - and goals from Russell Mitchell (three), Lee Brade (two), Ian Monks and Damon Graham gave them a 7-1 win over Burton Thistle.

Cartmel Reserves beat Slyne Reserves 3-0 to move into third place thanks to goals from Tim Brookes, Stuart Taylor and Scott Burrow.

But City Contract Services dropped vital points when Galgate held them to a 2-2 draw, while Morecambe Royals Res upset the formbook to move off the bottom of the table.

They beat Swarthmoor Social Club 4-3 thanks to goals from Darren Briggs (two), Gary O'Keeffe and Gareth Holmes. And there was also a win for Millhead, 2-1 over Allthwaite Rangers.

Torrisholme Res disappointed as they went out of the crashed 8-2 to Bentham in the Division Two Scott Sports Whiteside Cup, while Halton Rangers lost ground on Bentham as they were held to a 2-2 league draw by Bolton-le-Sands.

Morecambe Hoops stay in third spot after two Rob Goldsborough penalties plus strikes from Alan Fisher and Paul Rossi gave them a 4-0 win over Swarthmoor Reserves.

Marsh United Res hammered rock bottom Arnside Reserves 4-0, while Freehold edged out Caton United Res and Fylde's winning run continued as they beat Bare Rovers 6-3.

Division Three leaders Carnforth Rangers edged out derby rivals Millhead Reserves 5-4 in a thriller with a twist.

Carnforth raced into a 4-0 interval lead thanks to a stunning hat trick from Seamus Gorton and a strike from Alec Gorton.

A young Millhead side could have been overrun - but they amazingly fought back to 4-4 through Chris Hodgson, Steven Brandly, Neil Morris and Tom Burrows.

But lady luck deserted Millhead with seconds remaining when a tame shot appeared well covered by their keeper - but the ball hit a divot and diverted into the path of Ryan Hartley for a tap in.
