A TEENAGER has died after a head-on car crash in Kelbrook last night.
The 18-year-old, whose name has not been released, was driving a Fiat along Colne Road from Foulridge when he was in collision with a Vauxhall Omega travelling in the opposite direction.
The Fiat left the road and went into a wall.
Police today said the teenager died at the scene from his injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene, close to the Old Stone Trough country hotel, at 10.17pm and both drivers, who are thought to be local, were cut free by firefighters.
The 59-year-old driver of the Vauxhall was taken to hospital and treated for a fractured sternum and kept in overnight.
His injuries were today described as not serious.
Police investigating the accident are waiting for the body to be formally identified before releasing the name of the dead driver.
The Foulridge to Earby road is notorious for fatal accidents in recent years.
In 2000, John Driver, 24, of Essex Street, Barnoldswick was killed after his car went out of control and crashed into a wall on the A56 Colne road close to the roundabout junction with Barnoldswick Road.
There was a four-car pile up near to the Old Stone Trough Inn in 1997 and in 1996 an off-duty policeman was killed on the same road.
