RAMSBOTTOM is heading for a festive festival of markets this month with not one but five shopping events being held in the town over the last weekend before Christmas.
Over the weekend of Friday, December 17 to Sunday, December 19, Ramsbottom will be hosting the five events all demonstrating the economic revival of the town.
The events include: Farmers' and Crafts Market on Sunday, December 19; a French and Continental market running all weekend; a Christmas Street Market, also on the Sunday; the regular Car Boot Sale, again on the Sunday and the weekly Country Market on Saturday, December 18.
Sunday, December 19 promises to be the most action-packed day.
In the Civic Hall, French and Continental producers will be offering more than 70 French cheeses, wines, olives and other delicacies.
Visitors can then take a walk down to Market Place where they can purchase meat, fish, seafood, poultry and vegetables direct from the producers.
A walk across the road and down Bridge Street will take visitors to the shops of speciality delicatessens, leather goods, designer shoes, health and beauty retailers -- all complemented by outdoor stalls offering additional Christmas gift opportunities, including hand-made toys and household goods, cards and crafts.
At the bottom of Bridge Street -- where the East Lancashire Railway's Santa Special trains will be pulling in -- visitors will then find the last of Ramsbottom's markets with the regular Sunday Car Boot Sale.
