A BANNED driver and a police officer ended up grappling in the road after the motorist tried to flee on foot, a court was told.
Blackburn magistrates heard Shakil Ahmed had given a false name to one officer before getting out of the police car and running off.
Ahmed, 21, of Balaclava Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, two charges of police obstruction and one of resisting a constable.
He was ordered to do 75 hours community punishment, made subject to a community rehabilitation order for 12 months and disqualified from driving for 12 months. A charge of police assault was withdrawn.
Judy Balderstone, prosecuting, said Ahmed ran from the police car. A second officer tackled Ahmed as he tried to vault over railings, Miss Balderstone said. They ended up in the carriageway and Ahmed kicked out at the officer before being restrained.
