CHRIS Coates of the Green Party in a letter last week headed 'Blame the Labour renegades' suggests that I and others are out of step with the sensible transport policies of 'our own party locally and nationally.' We are not.
The policy comprises sensible guidelines that need to be interpreted; thus a sensible reading of the policy in the context of the parking problem in the vicinity of St Martin's College calls for further car parking as a partial solution to a chronic difficulty for residents.
Chris Coates is right that we cannot blame the Green Party for every traffic problem. What we can say, however, is that the Green Party approaches every traffic problem from a dogmatic ideology and damns the facts and evidence.
Its only solution is public transport, public transport, public transport and making it difficult for car drivers. Chris Coates would agree with me when I say he would never support a road scheme.
The Greens appear not to deal in practicable solutions that would be acceptable to the citizens of Lancaster and Morecambe.
Cllr Joe Ravetz, John O'Gaunt.
