MORECAMBE ended their mini-slump with a resounding win at Burton Albion on Tuesday night.
The Shrimps ran out 3-1 winners - and in truth could have scored a bucketload as they missed a penalty and also wasted chances galore.
The damage was largely done in the opening stages of the game as the Brewers were sent staggering to the deck by Morecambe's lighning start.
They should have been ahead in six minutes after Michael Twiss was fouled by Lee Ayres but Wayne Curtis hit the penalty too close to home keeper Dan Crane.
But Morecambe did go ahead seven minutes later when Danny Carlton nipped into the area and crossed for Lee Elam, who scored his first goal since rejoining the Shrimps.
Twiss was denied by Crane before Morecambe went further ahead through Carlton's powerful shot after a rebound - and the young striker made it 3-0 after 27 minutes as he made full use of gaping holes in the Burton defence from a Curtis cross to finish from a tight angle.
Nigel Clough's side were barely a threat and their only chance of the first half resulted in Adam Sollitt saving easily from a Jon Shaw header.
Morecambe continued to dominate after the break and Carlton was only denied a hat trick by a good save from Crane and then a coat of paint as his lob went close to making it 4-0.
Burton finally pulled a goal back late in the game when David Perkins hacked Aaron Webster down on the edge of the area and Andy Ducros wound himself up for a free kick that beat Sollitt via the underside of the crossbar.
That sparked a minor flurry from Clough's men as Sam Shilton, Ayres and Jon Shaw all saw shots flash wide - but Morecambe were never going to be denied.
MORECAMBE: Sollitt, Perkins, Howard, Bentley, Twiss, Curtis (Stirngfellow 83), Swan, Carlton (Heard 74), Elam, Walmsley, Blackburn. Subs not used: Rogan, Hunter, Robinson.
