A NEW webpage is offering residents in the borough the chance to protect themselves from fire.
The new page at www.manchesterfire.gov.uk gives householders the opportunity to have a free risk assessment and free smoke alarms fitted as part of the 'Target Fire' initiative which aims to help those most at risk from fires in the home.
The scheme was launched in April in response to research that showed fire deaths and injuries in some areas of Greater Manchester, including Bury's East Ward, were higher than average.
The Government has allocated £1.4 million to Greater Manchester over the next four years for the purchase of smoke alarms.
The Target Action staff can also be contacted on freephone 0800 555 815.
