I WAS pontificating on school uniforms with a colleague and was grumbling about how scruffy most of the lads look with their shirts hanging out.

However, I was cut down by being reminded that at least their hair cuts today look smarter than in our day.

I read about one headteacher banning hipster style trousers because they trail over shoes, creating a safety issue. One dad, who went to school in the 70s, hit back saying all the lads wore flares then but he didn't remember anyone tripping and breaking their necks on them. No, that was caused by the huge platform shoes hidden underneath!
