I WAS most disturbed to see the news of the 50 per cent funding cut to Bury's one and only Re:d Centre, which has been providing a most valued service for disabled children of Bury.

As the clinical lead for Burys Child Development Centre (located In Fairfield General Hospital), my main caseload consists of children with disabilities ranging from profound to mild and from physical to 'learning'. I have referred many families to the Re:d Centre who have benefited immensely from the various facilities and input it offers. All families have expressed a high level of satisfaction.

From experience, I can say that provision of respite facilities in Bury is already poor and cutting down funds further for such a valued facility is surely not in the best interest of these very needy children and their families, and is going to be a retrograde step. If anything, the Re:d Centre needs expansion rather than a funding cut.
