PRESTON 1 BURNLEY 1, April 1973
ALREADY promoted Burnley needed just a point to win the Second Division and a return to the top flight, while North End required a draw to avoid relegation to Division Three. The pitch was narrowed by six yards in an attempt to stifle the Clarets, who cancelled out Alex Bruce's early goal with a Colin Waldron equaliser to take the title in style - losing only four games all season.
PRESTON 1 BURNLEY 3, April 1988
A GENERATION of Burnley fans followed their team to Wembley for the first time as a result of a dramatic Sherpa Van Trophy semi-final win at Deepdale.
The second leg was perfectly poised following a stalemate at Turf Moor, but goals from George Oghani, Ashley Hoskin and Paul Comstive after extra time finally earned the Clarets a walk down Wembley way with Wolves.
PRESTON 2 BURNLEY 3, December 2001
Arthur Gnohere was 18 games into his Burnley career when he took centre stage at Deepdale by bagging a brace either side of a sublime Glen Little strike to establish himself as a cult hero.
BURNLEY 2 PRESTON 1, March 2002
New signing Gazza being paraded at a fevered Turf Moor, David Johnson scoring on his debut in a 2-1 win and a streaker with the scoreline etched on each buttock being rugby tackled by a giant bee. Unforgettable!
PRESTON 5 BURNLEY 3, December 2003
Did Stan Ternent resign after this galling defeat? What went on in the Deepdale tunnel remains unanswered, but one thing is sure - Burnley will be glad to see the back of Ricardo Fuller, whose hat-trick wrecked all hopes of a draw after Burnley had three times come from behind.
