We turned
the corner
- Hughes
CHORLEY manager John Hughes believes his side have turned the corner following last week's impressive 3-1 win against promotion-chasing Gresley Rovers.
Hughes' decision to ring the changes brought instant rewards for the Magpies, who picked up their best result of the season so far thanks to impressive contributions from new signings Jamie Squires, Gavin Ellison and Chris McGrath.
Squires, a recent capture from Bamber Bridge, put in a commanding performance at centre back, while the presence of former Leigh duo Ellison and McGrath helped to stiffen up a midfield which has looked a little light weight at times this term.
Now Hughes hopes his team can perform to a similar level over the remainder of the season - starting at Brigg Town tomorrow.
"We need to start performing like we did last Saturday from now until the end of the season because if we do that then we can be a match for anyone in this league," said the Magpies chief.
"I thought the new lads were excellent last week. I knew that Jamie was a quality player and I'd been after him for a while.
"He set an example at the back and Gavin and Chris also played well in midfield, too, so I hope this is a turning point in our season."
In the meantime, Hughes is hoping to sign an extra striker before tomorrow's game and he's confident of hanging onto Daniel Douglas-Pringle, too, despite interest from Conference strugglers Leigh RMI.
The Magpies chief also revealed that leading scorer David Eatock has been struggling with a muscle injury over the last few weeks, which is why he's started recent games on the bench.
