BURY African Outreach is asking for help to bring a little festive cheer to the orphans of war-torn Uganda.
The charity desperately needs donations to help give Christmas gifts to poverty-stricken children. But the presents will not be in the form of toys, but rather food or shoes.
The founder member of African Outreach, Mrs Betsy Keating, said: "A civil war has been raging in Uganda for the past 18 years. Since 1993 more than 800,000 people have died of Aids alone, leaving 1.8 million orphans who need help with food, clothing and education."
The charity currently supports 42 children in the area of Tororo in North East Uganda and two children who live near Kampala, helping with their education, uniforms and school equipment.
Mrs Keating is a regular visitor to the country and takes with her presents, letters and books donated by various schools.
Anyone who can help should phone 01204 883164.
