RAMSBOTTOM A march on toward yet another First Division championship after their 7-3 victory over their own B team, with Keith Jackson winning two sets and Graham Hoy one for the B team.
The race for the individual medal is closer this season. Paul Cichelli of Burning Desire has dropped down the table over recent weeks, leaving Mick Moir of Ramsbottom and Bill Russell of Hilton Bury leading the table on 42 points.
Both had three wins this week, as did Ben Armstrong and Simon Charnley for Burning Desire A against Carlton Club A in their 9-1 victory.
Results in Division Two were close, apart from St Philip's A's maximum 10-0 win over bottom of the table Maccabi A.
That means St Philip's catch up three points on leaders Ramsbottom C, who won 7-3 against their D team, but Ramsbottom C still have a healthy lead at the top of the table. Burning Desire B also had a 7-3 victory over Hamer.
Prestwich A and B teams were involved in 6-4 results but the A team won against St Philip's B while the B team lost to Carlton Club B. This left just the Prestwich C team who had to settle for a draw against Adelphi after leading 5-3 at one stage.
ELPM A lead the Division Three table by just six points from Elton Vale A after they both had victories: ELPM A 8-2 against BGSOB A, and Elton Vale A 7-3 at home to YMCA Sports.
Anthony Collins and Alan Meltzer were both unbeaten for Prestwich E, who eased their relegation worries after beating bottom of the table Maccabi C.
The other two matches in this closely contested division both ended all square with Claybank and Prestwich D drawing, and Shawfield A and Maccabi B sharing the points.
No change at the top of Division Four after the two leading teams, Holmar A and Seedfield Meths C both had 10-0 victories over the two Elton Vale teams, and not surprisingly, five of the six players involved in the battle for Division Four are at the top of the individual table.
John Bostock and Keith Cheyne both figure in the Top Ten after they were both unbeaten in Carlton Club C's 9-1 victory away at Seedfield Meths E. Seedfield Meths D had more success when they travelled to Holmar B and recorded a 6-4 win thanks to Alan Telfer who was undefeated on the night.
Another undefeated player was John Edge of ELPM B in his team's 7-3 win over BGSOB B.
The two ELPM teams met in Division Five and although the C team won 8-2, Jim Crompton had the satisfaction of beating Top Ten leader, John Dawes. Lawrence Paynter took a point off Gavin Greaves who is second in the Top Ten.
Shawfield C kept up the pressure for second place on ELPM C with a maximum victory over Seedfield Meths F. Walshaw SC A did well to score four points at Holmar C without their leading player this season, Steve Richardson.
The Bury B team, playing in Division One of the Lancashire and Cheshire, have just completed a successful season.
Last weekend they gained runners-up position in the league after two comprehensive 6-0 victories over Trafford and Blackburn, and a 4-2 win over Halton. Congratulations to Dave Smith, Mick Dore and Andy Kaye.
