AFTER suffering a rare defeat last week, it was business as usual for Salisbury B, who now look to have the B Section sewn up.

The Snooker boys from Whitefield made the trip to Badger Street and held their own in the early stages, sharing the opening four frames.

Captain Derek Angulin took frame five, leaving Pete Ramlaul to finish off Dave Wright 68-17 to take the aggregate.

With Huntley C sitting this week out, Walshaw B took the opportunity to stake their claim for promotion.

A brave fight by Elton Lib A, wasn't enough to dent Walshaws promotion aspirations, as Derek Bury and Dave Long made sure of the bonus points for a 6-3 victory.

Radcliffe St Mary's are hanging on to the coat-tails of the top three and did their own chances no harm at all when they entertained Tottington C.

Only Tom Mawdsley showed any resistance, as St Mary's turned this into a no-contest, winning five out of the six frames on offer.

Messrs Hewart and Farrington top scored on the night.

Radcliffe Central B made the long trek to Tottington and were handed a bagful of snooker points to take home.

Impressive wins from Neil Craven and Andy Higginson were overshadowed by a return to form by John Bromelow, with Bruce Holden on the wrong end of a 95-21 drubbing (20 start for BH nice red!).

Bury Snooker D just about stay at the head of affairs in the Bullitt Taxis C Section.

After taking the first three frames, Radcliffe Central A hit back with huge wins from Alan Green & Bry Wolstenholme to take the aggregate, with Chris Holmes grabbing a consolation to tie the match 4-4.

With only seven points separating the top five, Huntley B must be kicking themselves after they entertained bottom of the table Tottington A.

Their only wins came in the middle two frames, as the quartet of Howard, Johnson, Hughes & Mawdsley gave the visitors their second away win of the season.

Buchanans are losing touch with the pacesetters, following their visit to Stanley B.

They could only manage two points through Ged French and Jason '14 wins' Taylor which fell way short of the standard set by Dennis, Dave, Dave & Pete (whose average age would be considered to be a decent break by most players in this league).

The final game to report (due to late cards) is a mid-table affair, in which a loss virtually ruled out the championship dreams of the losers.

Yee-ah, off into the sticks rode Rad St Mary's B, armed with only a handful of cues and Birty's tash to take on the close-knit, Hollins.

The effervescent Jim Garvey kicked off the night inflicting a rare loss on Alan Evason.

St Mary's made it three, before Hollins hit back by way of Ian Trow and Bernard Pratt to make the last game a nail-biter.

It did not disappoint, as Ste Parry edged out Rob Capron on the black to complete a 7-2 victory.

Three of the top four in the A Section must be cursing their luck, as they slumped to defeats against opposition from the wrong half of the table.

Only the 'form' team Elton Lib C took advantage and moved to the summit with a 6-2 triumph over Walmersley D.

The aggregate was sealed in the second frame by Phil Hamer, with little to chose between the rest of the games.

Pick of the night for Walmersley was Chris Booth, playing in his testimonial year and leading the A Section frame wins.

Elton Lib B faced a potential banana skin, away at Bury Snooker C. Chief trap layers on the night were Tom Gay and Jed Ridgeley, whose banging of Mr Kay and Mr Brooks, respectively, led the way to a 6-2 victory and a lift out of the relegation zone.

Fishpool, who many had wrote off earlier in the season, can still lift themselves to safety, as suggested by their 7-2 away win at Heywood Reform.

Gritty performances from Steve Hilton, Joe Turk, Glynn Openshaw (Is he still playing ?) and an aggregate winning last frame by Dave Eckersley must give them a chance in the remaining games. As for Heywood, only Joe Noon and Tony Preston played anything like and must improve if they are to win the title again.

Simon Fitzsimmons could have snatched pole position in the High Break race when Elton Fold visited Walshaw A.

With the colours on their spots and two reds in the open, a missed black ended his dreams of a 'League ton' and settled for a 73 instead (his opponent, who had sat down for the frame so far, then turned in one of his best performances ever to lose by only 34 - Well done Ricky!).

The night was all about Walshaw and their two stars, Matt Gilmore and Pete Lomas whose respective wins of 66 and 39 points left the Fold only token wins in frames five and six.
