THE parents of teenager Natalie Pickwick-Jones, who was killed in a road accident last year, marked the first anniversary of her death with a fundraising football match.

Dave Jones and Elaine Pickwick, of Olsberg Close, Radcliffe, organised the game between Breightmet United Football Club and RoadPeace to raise money for the group which helps the families of road accident victims.

The couple have supported RoadPeace since Natalie's death when she was struck by a car in Bolton Road, Radcliffe. David and Elaine were offered support and advice by the group and they decided to organise the match as a thank-you.

The 15-year-old Radcliffe High pupil died after she was knocked down outside the Chef's Pantry sandwich shop in Bolton Road, Radcliffe, and a RoadPeace plaque in Natalie's memory was placed near the scene of the tragedy.

The football game took place at Breightmet United's ground in Bolton on Sunday and several former Bury FC footballers pulled on their boots for the game, including Natalie's uncle, George Jones, who also used to play for the club.

Before kick-off, both teams and the crowd stood arm-in-arm for a one-minute silence for Natalie. Other bereaved families also turned up to support the fundraiser. Mr Jones said: "Breightmet United managed to win the game 6-2 but the only winner on the day was RoadPeace. We raised £2,000 for the charity which is great and everyone had a good day.

"The RoadPeace team tired pretty quickly because we're all a bit older but we gave it our all. We are so grateful to everyone who helped to organise the event, including Kenny Clegg of Breightmet United and Steve and Nichola from the Last Orders in Radcliffe."

The events took place through the afternoon at Breightmet United, and continued into the evening at the Last Orders pub.
