A MILKMAN who crashed into a parked car on his morning round drove off without stopping, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how Khalil Ahmed, 25, later told police he had been planning to return and sort out the incident in the afternoon.

Ahmed, who already has a previous conviction for speeding in his milk float, admitted failing to stop and give his name and address after an accident, last August 17.

The defendant, of Swaledale Avenue, Reedley, was fined £100 with £35 costs, after the bench said they accepted his explanation.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, told the court Ahmed hit a vehicle in Beaufort Street, Nelson, at 8.50am and did not stop. The car was damaged on the driver's door, offside wing and offside wing mirror.

The defendant was traced an hour later and told police: "That will be the car on Beaufort Street. I was going to go back and sort it this afternoon."

Ahmed told the justices there had been too many cars around at the time of the accident. He continued: "It was school time and there was nowhere for me to stop."
