MANY thanks to the Bury Times for the article on our sponsored walk in Greenmount in aid of the tsunami appeal. We were amazed by the number who turned up - 435 in all - and we have been overwhelmed by how much they have raised, a total of £6,550 so far.
Greenmount Primary School raised £1,270 and Ramsbottom Scout Executive Committee raised £1,145. This donation has been sent to The Scout Association's Tsunami Appeal to help Scouts undertaking recovery work in the disaster area. Half of the world's 28 million Scouts live in the affected countries. The remaining £4,135 has been sent to the DEC Earthquake Appeal through the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Many thanks go to all of those who took part in this most enjoyable community event, including all Greenmount shop-keepers, hairdressers, the church, Tottington Silver Band, St John first-aiders, and Greenmount pre-school for the refreshments.
CHRISTINE TAYLOR,
ALISTAIR WADDELL,
Greenmount Scout Fellowship.
