IN their final game of the season, Walshaw B secured the runners-up position and gained the consolation of being one of the few teams to have defeated the new champions of the Bury League, St Mary's A.
Walshaw A made certain of retaining third place with a resounding win over Dobbies B who now slip to bottom following the Dobbies A win over Seedfield.
The meeting of first and second placed teams at St Mary's began badly for the new league champions as the normally reliable J. Garvey had an off night, and T. Wilkinson was in excellent form. Such was the difference that the match was virtually over after the first game.
G. Farrington and M. Ryder both won their game by narrow margins to scramble two points, but the visitors came away with the aggregate points.
Dobbies B travelled to Walshaw but they were soon in trouble as B. Weal had a comfortable win over I. Street in the opening game. Things went from bad to worse in the second as R. Vadasz ran up a 45-break in his game with M. Dean and ran out the winner 125-74.
With the match virtually over, M. Gilmore ran out winner of the final game with a lack lustre performance from V. Fox.
At Dobbies on the other hand, the A team who have struggled all season, finally got off the bottom of the table with a 5-1 win over Seedfield.
D. Crook gave the visitors a narrow lead from the opening game, but wins by E. Jones and D. Samuels swung the match in favour of the home side.
