TWO brothers who beat up a man in a vicious mob-attack deserved every day they got behind bars, an Appeal Court judge ruled.
Shahood Akbar, 33, of Farrer Street, Nelson, and Mahmood Akbar, 26, of Hilary Street, Burnley, were convicted at Preston Crown Court in June.
Shahood Akbar was found guilty of wounding with intent and violent disorder, while Mahmood Akbar was convicted of the same crimes and an additional charge of violent disorder.
Shahood received five years and his brother six years, while two other brothers were also jailed.
Their lawyers challenged the sentences as "manifestly excessive", and said both men had been devastated by the recent death of Mahmood Akbar's young daughter.
Lord Justice Keene, Mrs Justice Hallett and Dame Heather Steel, were also told that the brothers were acting under provocation.
But Dame Heather said it was a planned joint attack on just one victim involving a variety of weapons and with blows aimed at the head. The brothers, she concluded, "did not get a day too long".
