A CONVICTED dealer who tried to get hard drugs into Preston Prison has been jailed for four years -- and almost got another stretch for abusing the judge.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Neil Frazer, 23, was upset because the prosecution had dropped proceedings against his alleged accomplice.
Frazer, who has previous convictions for supplying and cultivating cannabis, was removed from the dock during sentence for what Judge Barbara Watson described as his "uncontrollable behaviour and abuse".
Judge Watson had told Frazer: "Everybody knows the problems created in prison by the demand for and supply of Class A drugs.
"It undermines the system and makes it difficult for prison officers to control the prison population."
Frazer, of East Lodge Place, Cliviger, admitted attempting to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis resin, in December 2003.
Alexandra Simmonds, prosecuting, told the court employees of Readymix, whose premises overlooked Preston Prison, saw two males walking up to the prison and heard them whistle. A whistle from inside the prison walls followed.
A package was then seen in mid air, heading towards the prison wall. It landed short, fell between two cars in the staff car park and the two men looked into the car park and then walked off.
The two men returned a few minutes later. Both seemed nervous and Frazer put on a duffle coat and went into the car park. Police detained him as he walked out of the prison gates. The other man ran off.
Officers found a package, containing cocaine, heroin and cannabis worth £680 next to the prison exercise yard.
Miss Simmonds said the defendant was arrested and interviewed and claimed he had been asked by his co-defendant if he wanted to go for a drive. He denied whistling or trying to throw any drugs over the wall and said he had not taken part in anything illegal. Frazer had 24 previous convictions.
Anthony Cross, defending, said Frazer was aggrieved at the decision taken by the Crown Prosecution Service over his co-defendant.
The barrister went on :"He is depressed about what is about to happen to him and is worried about his girlfriend and family."
