I READ that the wedding of the Prince of Wales had to be transferred from Windsor Castle to the town hall because, if the castle had been licensed for weddings, "common people" might have wanted to be married there in future!
And why not? It is the "common people" who have to pay for all these royal extravagances such as Windsor Castle, Clarence House and Kensington Palace.
If "common people" could be married in such august surroundings - even if only for the three years the licence would cover - it might bring the monarchy more in touch with the people.
No doubt the cost of the extra security at the town hall will fall on the council tax-payers of Windsor. Let us all give thanks that they don't have any connection with Bury!
