POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a Good Samaritan had part of his ear bitten off when he tried to break up a brawl outside a pub.
The 37-year-old victim left the Bay Horse pub, in Parr Lane, Unsworth, around midnight on Friday when he saw an altercation between two men on the pavement outside.
He attempted to separate the two men, but one of them turned on him and wrestled him to the ground, breaking the lower part of his right leg in the process.
The offender also bit off a segment of the top of the mans ear, which caused him to bleed profusely.
The offender is believed to have left the scene and the blood-stained victim was taken to Fairfield Hospital for treatment.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.
Det Insp Simon Collier, of Whitefield CID, said: "The victim was acting as a peacemaker and has received substantial injuries. Although some people have come forward, we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed first-hand what actually happened."
Anyone with information should contact Whitefield CID on 0161 856 8248.
