LANCASTER City's Conference North clash with Runcorn FC Halton was postponed last Tuesday night after most of the Dolly Blues' squad became stuck in traffic on the M6.
Nw the club faces D-Day tomorrow (Thursday) when the Football Conference meets to decide what action to take.
A points deduction is a possibility but a more likely outcome is a fine for the Dolly Blues.
The worst case scenario could see Lancaster being kicked out of the Conference North - however, the Citizen understands that is a course of action the Football Association would frown upon.
It would set a precedent the whole of football would have to follow.
A series of accidents on the motorway network and A6 rendered driving into the city virtually impossible and the game was eventually called off at 8.30pm.
Runcorn's team coach managed to thread its way to Lancaster having taken a huge detour into North Yorkshire. But even they were held up there after a serious accident on the outskirts of Clitheroe and didn't arrive at Giant Axe until around 7.20pm - 40 minutes later than Conference North rules permit.
With City's players mainly coming from Liverpool and Manchester, travel was nigh on impossible and by 8.30 only four fit players were at the ground with the remainder of the squad sitting in traffic on the motorway or A6.
"I have never known anything like it," says boss Phil Wilson. "We got to within four or five miles of Lancaster and ground to a halt - we never stood a chance of making the ground.
"It was about quarter to ten when we pulled into Forton Services - it was incredible."
