WHO says 0-0 draws are boring? That tried and tested footie formula was whizzed out of the window at Christie Park as two Conference leading lights served up a cracker.
Aldershot didn't make the long trip to defend - but in the face of one of the most sustained attacking onslaughts you will ever see, that's just what they had to do.
And the 0-0 was so cruel on Morecambe who, on another night, could have sent the scoreboard into meltdown.
The 0-0 final score would have baffled Einstein - and had the game been a boxing match the referee would have stopped it long before time was up. But as so often happens in the ring, there was almost a sucker punch.
With the last kick of the game Jake Robinson hooked the ball into the Morecambe net to send the Shots wild - but the 'winner' was ruled out by the flag of an eagle-eyed assistant referee much to Morecambe's relief. It was Aldershot's only shot on target in the whole game.
On the other hand, Morecambe's 'shots' column took up half a rainforest as they raced forward in search of a win.
In a flying start, Garry Thompson saw a thunderbolt deflected for a corner by ex-Welsh international Darren Barnard and then was foiled by keeper Nikki Bull.
Bull also charged from his line to save at the feet of Michael Twiss as the Shrimps dominated totally.
Tim Sills nearly headed a Kieron Walmsley corner into his own net while Gary Hunter missed a great chance on the stroke of half-time when he sliced wide from a perfect cross from the excellent Jamie Heard.
A rare sojourn into Morecambe territory saw Sills volley over the bar from eight yards shortly after the re-start when he really should have scored.
But normal service was resumed when Wayne Curtis headed just over under pressure from another tasty Heard cross and Twiss whipped a ball across the face of goal as three Shrimps closed in.
The final 10 minutes saw Morecambe in constant attack with Danny Carlton forcing a smart save from Bull with his first touch after going on as substitute.
Then Curtis and Twiss combined with sharp passing before Twiss returned the favour with Bull again pushing the shot to safety.
Surely a goal had to come and everyone in the ground thought it had four minutes from time as yet more brilliance from Twiss left Aldershot defenders chasing shadows.
He skipped to the by-line and crossed for the unmarked Lee Elam - but somehow Bull arched his back and clawed the ball away.
Then Walmsley's 25-yard free-kick was saved by Bull as it headed into the top corner before Darran Kempson headed over in stoppage time.
Then came drama as Aldershot forced a late, late corner. It fell to Robinson who drilled home from four yards. The Shots started partying - but the flag cut that glory short.
MORECAMBE: Robinson, Kempson, Bentley, Blackburn (Elam 56), Heard, Walmsley, Kelly (Curtis 53), Hunter, Howard, Thompson (Carlton 80), Twiss. Subs (not used): Sollitt, Swan.
