LEIGH Harriers' cross country star Thomas Boardman consolidated his overall lead in The Reebok Challenge with an outstanding run in the Inter-County championships.
He was one of a magnificent seven athletes who brought home county team medals from the event at Wallaton Park, Nottingham.
Competing in the U20 men's 10k over a tough course, with the first three guaranteed a world championship place, Thomas was up against the best of British. As a first year in the agegroup he ran an exceptional race, briefly taking the lead at the half way stage, but fell back to cross the line 11th in a close run in, to be second man home for the gold winning Greater Manchester squad.
Leigh's U13 girls' also collected county gold. Mid-Lancs champion Laura Riches showed her ability to compete at the highest level finishing 16th in the 3k race, one place ahead of team mate Amy Riley.
Leigh's U15s' girls played a role in the county silver success. Dionne Allen in her first inter-counties' race finished 20th in a very competitive field over the 4k course. She was followed home by Hannah Warburton 47th and Lauren Howarth 54th.
Isaac McCann put on another silver medal winning performance to make the top 20 in the U13 agegroup.
