GOLBORNE Parkside continued their NW Counties promotion push with a 56-0 victory away over basement club Higginshaw.
Saturday was the second time in three weeks the two sides have met, with Higginshaw conceding 150 points over the two games while the Golborne defence didnt concede a single point.
Played on a small pitch, high on the wind and snow swept hills, may have been a culture shock for the young Golborne lads. But the team, high on confidence and continuing to display great skills, built up a 30-0 half time lead with tries from Gareth Dickinson 2, James Byrne 2, and Leon Davy plus five conversions from Andy Simms.
Golborne added a further five tries in the second half.
The highlight was a seventy yard effort from Craig Parr. Further tries were added by Stuart Naylor, Kevin Marsden, Stuart Arkwright and Gareth Dickinsons third with three goals from Simms.
Simms took the man of the match with Kevin Marsden, playing the best rugby of his career, second and Craig Parr third. James Byrne once again top tackler in another good all round team performance.
This Saturday Golborne are at home to Thatto Heath in the last 16 of the NWCARL Challenge Cup, ko 2.30pm.
The second team are away to Weaverham Rangers in the last 16 of the NWCARL Bowl.
Golborne under 15's gave their best performance of the season away at Widnes St Marries that earned both the praise of coach Dave Smith and the opposition who admitted the best side lost. Down to a bare 13 players because of injuries and holidays, Golborne trailed the runaway league leaders by six points at half time having one try disallowed and dropping the ball over the line on another.
They fell 10-0 down early in the second half but a Jimmy Thomlinson try and goal made the score 10-6. before St Marries scored near the end to seal the game.
