IF Whitebirk roundabout was not an accident blackspot before, it certainly is now.
Since it was opened, there have never been any lane markings and drivers think it is Brands Hatch and use it as a free-for-all race track resulting in several accidents.
Something did need to be done, so the road planning idiots were let loose on this project, a department that I don't think has half a brain between them.
I have been a trucker and bus driver for 40 years and I think the council would have been better commissioning me or others like myself with some driving experience, it would have been cheaper and better.
The roundabout is wide enough for three lanes all the way round and would be better off with peak time traffic lights on it, especially to stop traffic coming from Preston entering the roundabout at speed.
With these new road markings, when entering from Rishton going to Blackburn there are far too many lane changes in too short a distance.
The whole road marking in this area is a complete shambles, take the new ring road for instance.
Also why do they build bus stops protruding into the road so when the bus stops so does all the traffic, when I was a bus driver there used to be pull-ins so that traffic could keep moving.
I could go on with many more comments about the so-called traffic calming as they do not seem to realise trucks are getting bigger but they will insist in making obstacles for these vehicles.
