A COMBINATION of stress and jealousy drove Jason Primo to drag his wife through the streets of Radcliffe to confront the man he believed she was having an affair with, a court heard.
Primo (29), currently of Grundy Avenue, Prestwich, admitted assaulting Nicola Primo causing actual bodily harm
Miss Enza Chiappi, prosecuting, told Bury magistrates that Primo and his wife had been married for three years and had a child but the relationship had got into difficulties over the defendant's suspicions about his wife's friendship with another man.
The incident flared up after they had gone to Whitefield to celebrate a birthday, having a meal and calling at pubs and clubs but the defendant's attitude changed when it seemed his wife was exchanging banter with two males.
When they returned to the family address in Radcliffe, the defendant asked what was wrong and his wife told him the relationship was over. She said she felt smothered by him, as he followed her and checked on her all the time. She then lied about sleeping with the other man and the defendant went into a rage. Primo threatened his wife and kicked her, also pulling her hair.
He dragged her out of the house and pulled her down North Street. He grabbed her by the arms and pulled her through streets, across Cross Street to Foundry Street, to the flat where her friend lived.
A call was made to the police but by the time officers arrived, the defendant had dragged his wife home. He locked her in the bedroom but her screams led neighbours to contact the police.
Mrs Primo had bruises to her arms, and Primo was arrested.
Magistrates called for pre-sentence reports, and Primo was granted conditional bail until April 25 when he will be sentenced.
