ACCORDING to the Bury Times (February 25) millions of pounds of local taxpayers' money is spent on repairs and claims because of damage to pavements.
Our borough engineer Mike Cannon tells us the council will increase "street care inspection" and allocate even more money for repairs and planned maintenance, then goes on to say that they will see what more they can do.
Well it doesn't need a highly qualified borough engineer to realise how most of this damage is caused, yet Mr Cannon makes no reference to motor vehicles which encroach onto pavements when parking.
So look no more Mr Cannon: prevention is always better than cure. Let's have some action taken against these drivers who are costing us millions.
PHIL RIGBY,
Lea Mount Drive, Bury.
