HOW saddened I was to read the letter from Audrey Schofield (February 25).
I have been taking a fitness session at the Jubilee Centre since it opened nine years ago, and proud to say that mine was the first group to be up and running.
There are 40 people who come to me, the attendance averaging 20 every Tuesday morning. At the same time there is a group learning Spanish, and following my class there is a further group taking pilates. Hardly a handful of people! Of course, they are not all local; the centre is for the whole borough.
Over the years, I have been the guest speaker at all kinds of events (last week I addressed more than 100 ladies at a lunch in Shropshire) and when I mention my group at the Jubilee Centre, I am made aware how fortunate we are in Bury. I have yet to hear of a similar activity centre for over-50s anywhere. Beryl Pilkington and her team are to be congratulated.
The subsidised food in the Chatterbox Cafe is superb but unfortunately, three delivery vehicles a week are necessary, causing disruption for residents.
Make your mind up, Ms Schofield; if parking is your problem, you should be pleased that vehicular access is to be provided for the new extension. Get a life, come and join us . . . you never know, you might enjoy it.
MRS MARIE CALDWELL
