CHRIS Day could find himself playing for a career at Deepdale when North End play Wolves on Saturday.
Billy Davies has confirmed that Gavin Ward , who was knocked unconscious against Ipswich three weeks ago, will be in the 16 which faces the former Premiership side.
But he insists no decision will be taken until Saturday on who starts between the sticks and who is warming up the bench.
Day, on loan from Queens Park Rangers for another week, has impressed since being drafted in to cover for the injured Ward and Andrew Lonergan who will have cruciate ligamen surgery in a fortnight.
Day's contract at the west London club is due to run out in the summer, while Ward's one year deal with Preston also runs out then.
Lonergan's injury is expected to keep him out of the first team until September, meaning cover is required for the start of the new season. With Jonathan Gould gone to Bristol City already, Davies will need to find cover for the start of next season, be it in renewing a contract or signing a new player.
Davies said: "Gavin is training and will be in the 16 for Saturday, all being well. Chris has done an excellent job for us, and no decision has been made about who will be where, yet. We want to see how things go."
Half the battle for Davies this week has been trying to ignore the hullabaloo caused by Saturday's win at West Ham.
An excellent result appears to have been overlooked by the media in general, with reports full of details about a confrontation between players in the tunnel after the game.
Some also accused Davies of being sent to the stands before the end of the game but this is disputed by the manager himself.
He said: "I chose to go the dressing room for the last few minutes because of the abuse we were getting from one group of fans. I thought it would diffuse the situation.
"As for what went on in the tunnel, I think it was just a case of handbags at 50 yards. From our point of view, it is all forgotten and we haven't been dwelling on it.
"What we take away from the West Ham game is an excellent performance which we should be proud of.
"The new lads, David Nugent, Patrick Agyemang, Chris Sedgwick, Matt Hill and Chris Day, have settled in very well and I am very pleased with the way we are playing.
"We now need to maintain our home form on Saturday against Wolves."
