A SPECIAL Employment Fair 2005 event staged in Bury proved to be just the job for the career-minded.

Businesses, agencies and representatives from the Armed Forces were among those who took part in the fair which was held at Bury Town Hall's Elizabethan Suite. And it was so successful that the event could be repeated next year.

Organised by the Asian Development Association of Bury (ADAB), the Employment Fair 2005 highlighted jobs and career opportunities to more than 150 visitors.

Well-known employers such as Tesco, Barclays and the Halifax together with recruitment teams from the local authority, Army, Navy and police were on hand to offer guidance and support. The fair was aimed at those still at school, school leavers, young students, lone parents and those looking for a change in career.

Practical advice on how to get on the employment ladder was provided by Job Centre Plus and Bury training and Connexion. Bury College staff outlined training opportunities.

ADAB staged the event after receiving funding from the Bury Local Strategic Partnership and the organisation was delighted at the success of the fair.

Chairman Dr Lal Khan said: "The event went extremely well and we are positive about the outcome. The agencies told us they received many quality queries. It also gave them the chance to network. The fair allowed us to raise awareness of the career and employment opportunities available to the communities of Bury, especially the ethnic minority, and allowing people to access these opportunities."
