FUN and more fun was the order of the day on Friday when the public did their bit to "fun-raise" for Comic Relief.

From sporting red noses to a 12-hour fancy dress, five-a-side football match, locals contributed to the £37,809,564 so far raised. Those who took part included:

-Bury Council's sports development team netted at least £1,000 with 12 hour five-a-side football tournament. In fancy dress, the team played from 5am to 5pm taking on various teams all day long. Robin Philip, sports development officer, said: "There were about ten players on the team and we worked through the day by substituting players as we went. It was a real sense of achievement when we finished."

-Social worker Ken Smith surrounded himself with "singing toys" for an hour and raised £85. Ken who works with Bury Mental Health Team, said: "It was the longest hour ever, but I did it. My ears were ringing afterwards though."

-Staff at The Local Off-Licence in Prestwich spent the whole day in their pyjamas and invited customers to take part in fun games and wine-tasting throughout the day. A total of £216 was raised.

-Young NHS cadets at Fairfield Hospital raised more than £500 with a "Big Hair Day". Cadet Kirsty Boardman, who is described as being "very strong in communication skills" raised £200 with a five-hour sponsored silence.
