A WOMAN has died after being involved in an accident with a tram in Bury on Friday night.
The victim, who has not been named, died after she was hit by a tram on the Metrolink line at Prestwich.
The woman, believed to have been in her 40s and from the Prestwich area, was hit by the tram as it travelled to Manchester.
Police were called to the Metrolink station at Rectory Lane, Bury, at 9.50pm following reports that the tram had collided with the woman.
Ambulancemen pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The line from Bury was closed for the rest of the evening while police carried out an investigation and firemen from nearby Broughton fire station were called in to help restore the line in the aftermath of the incident.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held.
