STOCKPORT RES 1
BURNLEY RES 1
(match abandoned after 71 minutes)
BURNLEY are to appeal for the result to stand after seeing their clash with Stockport County abandoned for the THIRD time.
The Pontin's League clash, postponed twice in January due to a waterlogged pitch, suffered another deluge last night and was halted 19 minutes from time with the scores level at 1-1 after Alex Taylor cancelled out Neal Trotman's first half own goal.
And both sides will now beg the Football League not to have to travel to the home of UniBond League side Woodley Sports for a fourth time.
Reserve team manager Mark Yates said: "Before we got there the pitch was dry as a bone and then the heavens opened and the conditions just kept getting worse.
"In the end the referee had no choice but to abandon it and we are hoping that 71 minutes constitutes a match so that hopefully we don't have to go back.
"We want the Football League to accept the result."
County took the lead when Clarets keeper Danny Coyne, celebrating his latest Welsh call up, smashed an attempted clearance off defender Trotman and into his own net.
Striker Taylor stroked the Clarets level 10 minutes after the break before the weather finally won the day.
