AN East Lancashire peer was today calling on the Government to allow the appointment of international observers at the forthcoming General Election.
The call from Lord Tony Greaves of Pendle follows the recent spate of allegations of vote-rigging in parts of Britain - including Blackburn, Burnley and Pendle.
The allegations were often connected with wide scale postal voting.
The Liberal Democrat said: "There are two reasons for inviting "fair election" observers to this country for the General Election.
"The first is the alarming growth in allegations of vote-rigging here.
"The second is to practice what we preach to the rest of the world."
At House of Lords Question Time today Lord Greaves was to ask the government: "What arrangements will be made for the appointment of international observers during the next general election campaign?"
