Our 100 Club lottery was drawn for the first time last week and the winning numbers were as follows; 60 (£25); 14 (£15) and 24 (£10). Well done to the winners. If you have not yet subscribed to our 100 Club but would like to, then please ask your group leaders for a registration form. You've got to be in it to win it.
The second of the training weekends was held at Middleton HQ last weekend. This puts the participants half-way through their course and well on their way to becoming warranted leaders. Don't forget to get your modules validated through the training advisors (John, Mark and June). The third weekend will be a residential camp at Ashworth Valley in June.
Regular readers will know that between July 29 and August 10, some of our Radcliffe District Explorer Scouts will be joining in with 16,000 other Scouts and Guides from around Europe on the EuroJam camp at Hylands Park in Essex. This is the first Scout Jamboree for ten years and will be the largest that the UK has held since 1957.
The programme promises climbing and abseiling, as well as time to explore issues facing many young people throughout the world such as Children's Rights and landmines. The event will reinforce the 'family of Scouting' ethos and help create new bonds and friendships. The UK will host the 21st World Jamboree in 2007.
One of the first Scout troops to be registered was in Radcliffe, after a visit by the founder and Chief Scout Lord Robert Baden-Powell in 1908. Radcliffe is still host to five Scout groups and Two Explorer Scout groups meet at Ainsworth Parish (Phoenix Unit) and Lowton Street (Pegasus Unit). These groups have a total of 350 years of Scouting between them and this year's membership has increased to 271. Scouting is alive and kicking in the district. We are still developing the spiritual, mental and physical well-being of the young people in our care as we go forwards towards our 100th birthday. Let's continue to support Scouting for the next 100 years. We do make a difference.
Thank you to all our dedicated leaders and supporters for their outstanding work and commitment to an alternative path in self- development and entertainment as well as excitement and co-education and new experiences for all young people and adults from six years and beyond. Interested in joining us as a volunteer? Please contact any of these people, June Ascroft (District Commissioner, 762 9905); Richard Beedie (Beavers 6-8 yrs c/o Wesley Methodist on Fridays); Barry Sheehan (Cubs 8-10 yrs as above); John Parish (Scouts 10-14 yrs); Steve Davies (Explorers 14-18 yrs, Lowton Street Mondays).
