THANK you for publishing my letter about the Whitebirk traffic chaos (LET, March 15). In your photograph, it would be interesting to see the tailback further up the hill, showing the standing traffic on the inside lane of the M65.
This is the effect that has now been bestowed on Junction 6 Westbound as I mentioned in my letter.
I actually agree with many of the points made by Adrian Schofield, having driven a variety of slower accelerating commercial vehicles up to seven-and-a-half tonnes.
Unfortunately, inexperience, arrogance and a lack of imagination, mean that motorists are often surprised then they find a slow moving, vehicle blocking their path, as they accelerate towards it.
They quite often react with irate horn blowing, which is futile. A little consideration and a lift of the throttle would avoid the problem.
Perhaps the speed limit on the roundabout is too high? I have already put forward my views on the cause of the tailbacks, but what about the effect?
Increased journey times means a big increase in pollution from the queuing cars, which must be a backward step.
