GOALIE Simon Yates is running the London Marathon to raise more than £1,000 for a charity that funds and organises special days out for seriously ill young adults.
Simon (33), of Pickering Close, Woolfold, is goalie for Thornleigh FC in Bolton and works with Voith Paper.
The Willow Foundation charity was set up by former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs. Simon said: "I was taken by their story of setting up the charity after they lost their daughter to cancer when she was just 31. The age group they provide special days for is the age group my friends and I are in and I felt I should do something to help."
Cheering him on will be his wife and son. Anyone interested in sponsoring Simon can contact him on 655 2968.
