GOLFERS from an Unsworth club swung into action to spend 2004 raising money for Christies.
Members of the Pike Fold Golf Club, off Hills Lane, presented Cynthia Cutler from the cancer specialist hospital with £1,700 at a celebratory dinner following 12 months of fundraising.
Club secretary John ODonnell has been raising money for Christie Hospital after his 20-year-old son Peter and 54-year-old wife Barbara both died from lung cancer within three years of each other. So far he has raised more than £6,000 since his sons death in 1987.
Mr ODonnell was joined in his fundraising efforts by 2004 club captain Terry Watson who named Christies his charity of the year raising money for breast cancer treatment and research.
And there are no plans for the fundraising to stop as current captain Paul Brumby has also made Christie Hospital his charity of the year.
