PRIMARY school youngsters showed their mums just how much they care by putting their thoughts into verse for a poetry competition.
More than 20 schools from across the borough invited pupils to express their feelings for their mums by entering the Mill Gate shopping centre Mum's the Word poetry competition in the run-up to Mother's Day.
The centre was inundated with entries and more than 80 were displayed in the centre.
The winners were Francine Stansfield (10), from Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, who won the nine to 11 age group, and Bethany Evans, from Sunnybank Primary School, who won the six to eight category.
Each won her mum a luxury pamper hamper packed full of health and beauty goodies, and vouchers, as well as a £15 book voucher for themselves.
Vincent Owens, from Whitefield County Primary School, and Jessica Rowbotham, from Heaton Park Primary School, were runners-up and won their mums a make-over,and a £10 book voucher each.
Jennifer Morris, marketing manager at the centre, said: "These poems won because they were really orginal and really sincere."
