IN their recent Focus leaflet the Lib Dems complain that "much more should be invested in CCTV and community policing".
Have they failed to notice the CCTV cameras, the new police station, and the extra police officers in Prestwich?
Whereas the Lib Dems and Tories are all to ready to make false promises to the electorate, Labour actually delivers the goods as they have also done on schools and hospitals.
The Lib Dems also complain about the lack of ASBOs being issued. Is this the same party that voted against ASBOs in Parliament because they infringed the rights of criminals? We have even had Charles Kennedy arguing that prisoners should be given the vote!
The fact is that, although many of us are comforted by the sight of a "bobby on the beat", they are also highly visible to the criminals and yobs who will quickly flee and warn their associates of a police presence in the area.
The current police tactic of non-uniformed officers in unmarked cars swooping on unsuspecting suspects has been a success. That's why overall crime is down in Prestwich and the police should be congratulated.
